Fifteen Years of Giving

In 1995, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah (princess at that time) established the Jordan River Foundation to contribute to the social and economic well-being of Jordanians.

In 1995, HRH embraced the Jordan River Designs Project to give its Jordanian identity and to provide socio-economic projects for women to enhance their livelihood while developing their knowledge and skills in handicraft production and entrepreneurship.

In 1995, Jordan River Community Empowerment Program was established to empower communities, inclusive of the more vulnerable to create economic opportunities and improve the quality of their lives.

In 1997, JRF celebrates the launch of the Jordan River Child Safety Program, the most ambitious program in the region to fight child abuse.

In 1999, the Capacity Building and Business Development Services Unit was established to build the capacity of communities by providing local community-based businesses, cooperatives, institutions, and individuals with entrepreneurship, managerial and technical training services, consultancies, referrals and other business development services and community participation as related to community needs.

In 2000, Dar Al Aman was established as the first comprehensive therapeutic residential center in the region to assist victims of child abuse reported to the Jordanian Child Protection System.

In 2002, the Rural Community Cluster Development Program was launched in Ajlun, Northern Badia, Madaba, Wadi Araba, and Um Al Rassas, with the aim to promote citizen participation in addressing critical needs for the economic and social revitalization of rural community life.

In 2003, Her Majesty puts the building block for the Queen Rania Family and Child Center, with the belief that child safety goes beyond helping abused children, but should also work on the preventative and awareness levels.

In 2004, JRF launched Ajyaluna Campaign, the largest and most widespread preventive campaign for child safety resulting in officially declaring the 6th of June the National Day for Child Safety by the Jordanian Government.

In 2005, The Local Development Program for Less-Privileged Areas was launched to raise the standards of living in poor areas through increasing citizenship and community participation, establishing income generating projects, providing revolving credit funds, capacity building, and infrastructure projects. JRF worked in Berein in Zarqa, Housha in Al Mafraq, Deir Alla in Balqa, Al-Hashmiyah in Zarqa, Ghor Al-Mazra'a in Karak, Al-Jafer, Al-Husainyah and Al-Mreigha in Ma'an, and Wadi Araba in Aqaba.

In 2007, JRF launched the Safe Schools Initiative to combat child abuse and bullying in schools, as a response to the many complaints from students and parents.

In 2007, the experience of JRF in development was transferred to local communities. JRF starts implementing Qudorat Program, which aims at strengthening the institutional capacities of non-governmental Community Based Organizations (CBOs), through training and establishing socio-economic projects that are serving the needs of their local communities.

In 2007, the Jordan River Foundation established the Youth Initiative Unit aiming at building their capacities and preparing them for the labor market, exemplifying the vision of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah that young Jordanians represent a tremendous well spring of talent and drive.

In 2007, JRF launched the Family Support Line (110 for Family and Child), a helpline that provides a free and confidential service aiming to empower the child and family in order to promote and protect the well-being and safety of children in Jordan. The helpline receives over 7,000 calls per month.

In 2009, the Safe Family Unit was established at the Queen Rania Family and Child Center. The Unit is a multi-disciplinary case management unit which serves victims of domestic violence.  The unit offers a model of co-located governmental, non-governmental and psychosocial services all upon the best interest of the victim. The unit serves women of diverse backgrounds and ages.

In 2009, the Local Comprehensive Development Initiative was launched targeting the Governorate of Tafileh, the Southern Ghor District and Rassoun Village in Ajloun. The program looks at communities in a holistic manner, including education, health, infrastructure, youth and economic empowerment and focuses on the implementation of comprehensive sustainable socio-economic projects based on local community needs.
This comprehensive development outreach ensured the Foundation’s presence all over the Kingdom.

In 2009, JRF started to increase its socio-economic outreach in the city of Aqaba and Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah placed the corner stone for the Queen Rania Al Abdullah Center for Community Empowerment.

In 2010, Jordan River Foundation’s interventions and services reached more than 1 Million Beneficiaries touching and changing their lives through the Jordan River Community Empowerment and the Jordan River Child Safety programs.
