Aqaba – Maghaweer
As part of its holistic intervention approach in Aqaba, JRF has partnered with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), to enhance the role of youth in Aqaba, by engaging them in several activities that identify their needs and desires at the governorate level, and implement a number of voluntary activities to enhance civic engagement.
JRF recruited and increased the capacity of a team of 38 youth, 14 of whom are female. Dubbed “Maghaweer Al Aqaba”, these youth have become leaders in their communities. Annually, the Maghaweer set a strategic action plan that includes volunteering and civic engagement activities for youth in Aqaba, in coordination with all relevant stakeholders in the Governorate.
The team and other youth from the area have to date successfully completed the following:
- 19 training sessions with the participation of 798 youth, of whom 391 are female.
- 19 voluntary activities with the participation of 1906 youth, of whom 930 are female. These activities included the organization of a youth marathon, football competitions, and a special celebration for Independence Day, among others.
The team has encouraged the formation of two other youth groups in the area, called the Salah Al Deen and the Old Town neighborhood teams, which consist of 42 youth, 21 of whom are female.
