Rasoun Village Development Project (2007-2009)
Under the direction of Her Majesty Queen Rania to develop marginalized communities that do not fall under poverty pockets but are in dire need of development, JRF piloted a new initiative in 2007 that looks at communities in a holistic manner, including education, health, infrastructure, youth and economic empowerment.
The project focused on the implementation of sustainable socio-economic projects based on local community needs. As part of the comprehensive development approach adopted, JRF implemented the project in partnership with Orange Jordan and Orange Foundation France in order to demonstrate the importance of cooperation, collaboration and social responsibility between the private sector and civic society organizations in enhancing the livelihoods of the Jordanian people.

The work started by establishing a local cooperative in the community to become the umbrella and the steering arm of the project’s activities. In cooperation with the established cooperative, JRF completed the implementation of the pre identified interventions as per the local community needs. Those interventions included:

  • Providing maintenance to the Rasoun Comprehensive Secondary School for girls.

  • Equipping the village’s health center with an ultra sound system.

  • Establishing a bakery run by the local cooperative and employing three locals.

  • Distributing a total of 33 loans through the co-op to implement small income generating projects that will raise the standards of living for the beneficiaries in the area.

  • Conducting training and awareness sessions and for the cooperative and locals including women and youth.

Furthermore, JRF collaborated, coordinated with and leveraged funding from other entities to provide better services for the village including the Public Transport Regulatory Commission (PTRC), the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Directorate of Governmental Buildings and the Higher Council for Youth. Additionally, Her Majesty’s office provided more support to complement the work that has been achieved including a youth implemented project to paint the villages houses from outside to improve the aesthetic of the area and accordingly developing the tourism potential. This activity was implemented in cooperation with the MoT.
