Khazma Integrated
Development Pilot Project
As a result of JRF’s high-quality performance in RCCDP the
MoPIC funded the CEP to implement a pilot economic
empowerment project in the village of Khazma, located in the
Deir 'Alla District, Balqa Governorate. Khazma is a village
in the Jordan Valley with 5,000 residents who established
squatter settlements following the Palestinian exodus during
the War of 1948. This community suffers from unemployment,
poverty and other socio-economic challenges. This project
will partner with Khazma Women’s Cooperative a thriving
local community initiative. This Cooperative operates a
small dairy processing facility which has had a positive
social and economic impact on the lives of its nearly 50
members. This two-year pilot project which began in January
2004 is designed to strengthen and expand the activities of
this Cooperative and to increase community-led economic
opportunities in the area.
