Sponsor a Child at Dar Al-Aman
2007
When people care enough to make
a difference in the world – that is when we can really change lives! The story
below exemplifies how things could end right because we all cared.
The Red Tree:
In an art therapy session, the clinical psychologist was using the imagination
and relaxation technique with Nada;
“Nada imagine you are in a garden full of pink carnations (Nada’s favorite
flower)”; the psychologist said,
“How do I imagine?” Nada replied,
“Close your eyes and try to see it in front of you”
“I can’t!” Nada screamed,
“Try to imagine something else then”,
“I can’t imagine anything!!” “I can only see a red tree, an exposed red tree”
At the age of 8, Nada couldn’t enjoy the wonders of imagination. She was
sexually abused by a family member for three years successively. Not only so,
but her behavioral problems from being sexually abused resulted in physical
abuse by her grandmother, with whom she was living. Her life was shut down to
total darkness with only a narrow beam of light and hope; the red tree.
Doors and Keys were different at Dar Al-Aman. Love and safety were the signs on
each of the open doors that lead to warm apartments and caring professionals.
Keys included dialogue, understanding and acceptance. Arts, play and
story-telling were the wheels of self-expression and self-realization. “You are
a worthy and valuable child” is what Nada was reminded each morning.
It is this support from current sponsors and new sponsors that help continue the
work of Nada– and others like her.
Your sponsorship contribution, either monthly or annually, will help fund vital
therapeutic plans and activities necessary for these children to become
well-adjusted adults. Your contribution is also an investment towards a healthy
society in the future.
After you have signed up to sponsor a child, you will receive regular updates
about the child you are sponsoring and the progress s/her made. Visits to Dar Al
Aman could also be arranged. Child sponsorship is fully tax deductible and can
be paid monthly or annually.
The Jordan River Foundation is the only organization that operates a temporary
residential therapeutic center that serves abused children from infancy to early
adolescence (birth-12 years old). The center can accommodate up to 32 cases at
one time. Therapeutic plans could range from 3 months to 5 years depending on
the type, severity and complexity of the case.
The primary task of Dar Al-Aman is to provide an educative and rehabilitative
treatment program which will enable children to overcome the impairments and
negative feelings caused by the abuse, restore their self-worth and value,
enhance their competencies and fulfill their potential.
Government funding channeled through the Ministry of Social Development (MOSD)
covers approximately 25% of Dar Al Aman’s total operational expenses. This is
the only governmental assistance JRF receives. Additionally, children and their
families do not pay any fees for the services provided. The Foundation depends
on the generosity of concerned individuals and corporations.
As a child sponsor, you can help change the life of a child by providing the
basics that every abused child deserves - an educative and rehabilitative
treatment program, which will enable children to overcome the impairments and
negative feelings caused by the abuse, restore their self-worth and value,
enhance their competencies and fulfill their potential.

children who have suffered from abuse and neglect new possibilities to
